ITR (Income Tax Return) is a form submitted to the Income Tax Department declaring your annual income, deductions, and tax liability. You must file ITR if your gross income exceeds ₹2.5 lakh (₹3 lakh for senior citizens), you have foreign assets, or you want to claim a tax refund.

The deadline for filing ITR for individuals (non-audit cases) is typically July 31st of the assessment year. For example, for FY 2023-24, the deadline is July 31, 2024. A belated return can be filed up to December 31st with a late fee of ₹5,000 (₹1,000 if income is below ₹5 lakh).

You typically need: Form 16 (from employer), Form 26AS (tax credit statement), bank account statements, investment proof (80C, 80D), home loan certificate (if applicable), capital gains statements, and Aadhaar & PAN card.

Not filing ITR can lead to: penalty up to ₹5,000, interest on unpaid tax, inability to carry forward losses, prosecution in severe cases, and difficulty getting loans or visas.

You can login via: Google account (one-click), Mobile OTP (enter 10-digit number → receive SMS OTP), or Email OTP (enter email → receive OTP in inbox). No password required!

For email OTP: check your spam/junk folder. For mobile OTP: ensure your number is correct and has good network. You can click "Resend OTP" after 30 seconds. If still not received, try the email OTP option instead.

We accept PDF, JPG, PNG, XLSX, XLS, DOC, and DOCX files. Maximum file size is 10MB per file. You can upload multiple files at once.

Yes! When uploading, you can optionally set a password for your documents. The password is required to download/view the file later. Note: if you forget the password, ClearTax cannot recover it.

Your documents are securely stored on our servers as long as your account is active. You can delete any document from your dashboard at any time.
